Sewer Generator Project
September 14, 2021
Construction of upgrades and improvements to the following sewer pumping stations is being financed by the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (SRF). Sewer pumping stations include: Primus Park, Middle School, US 52, Indian Branch, Summerville, Hyman Paper, Highgate, Bethea, Chesterfield, and Matown.
The Clean Water SRF program is administered by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control with joint funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the State of South Carolina. This project includes standby power for the ten primary sewer pumping stations in the Darlington County Water & Sewer Authority sewer system. These generators will provide emergency power should electrical power fail due to weather related or mechanical issues. Generators located at each sewer pumping station will control the levels of sewerage and prevent spills throughout Darlington County, and parts of Florence and Lee Counties. Clean Water SRF programs operate around the country to provide states and communities the resources necessary to maintain and improve the infrastructure that protects our valuable water resources.
