EPA Lead and Copper Rule
November 19, 2024
In 1991 the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) published a regulation to control lead and copper in our drinking water. This regulation is known as the Lead and Copper Rule (LCR). Since 1991 the LCR has undergone some revisions. Earlier this year the EPA issued the final rule requiring the drinking water systems across the country to ID and replace lead pipes. The LCRI (Lead and Copper Rule Improvements) requires us to take action to protect people from lead exposure in water and to replace lines, if needed. Darlington County Water and Sewer Authority is a fairly young water system and has never had issues with high amounts of lead. Any materials after 1988 can be considered as non-lead,but under the mandate of the EPA and DHEC we would like your help in identifying your service lines. If you have any questions you can refer to the EPA website, the link below, or call us at the office.
